The team at Drake Dental strive to prevent dental disease where possible.
This entails regular dietary and oral hygiene advice to minimize both periodontal (gum)disease and dental caries (tooth decay) which are the main causes of tooth loss.
Our team of dentists and therapists provide scaling and planing treatments to the periodontal pockets surrounding teeth to maintain healthy gums by removing plaque retentive factors and tartar. We also provide fissure sealant restorations to the surfaces of disease prone teeth which prevent food trapping in the fissures (grooves) within the teeth and thus reduce the chances of tooth decay there.
We apply fluoride varnish to all children between the ages of 3 -18 years at every check up , this is known to reduce tooth decay by upto 50%. If they have high decay rates this may be done every 3 months and is often supplemented with prescribing high fluoride toothpastes.
Regular radiographs (x rays) of your teeth ensure that any issues are addressed early on. We also provide sports guards for contact sports to prevent trauma to the teeth.
Patients with high risk of dental disease are watched more closely and will have follow up every 3 months, those with reduced risk of dental disease are seen less often anytime between 6 months and 2 years between recalls.
